Dead Blow hammers are plastic and have a mushy strike. Annealed copper is non-marring and still has a nice snappy strike. This hammer is very hefty in the hand; superb for thumping parts back into compliance!

I fit the American Hickory handle (hard as a coffin nail!) and flame toast it. I lightly sand the shaft before a two week vacuum soak in boiled linseed oil. Then I air harden the linseed oil for another two weeks.
